  • interesting isn’t it? Always thought it was.

  • and you would gain a far greater overall increase in performance…..anabolics would prove more beneficial with regard to recovery, and cyclists who’re obsessed with power to weight ratios wouldn’t want to be taking to many strong anabolics. Blood doping by way of EPO and/or transfusions to raise red blood cell levels was what caused the speeds to go crazy in the peloton…..anabolics have been around forever so if they were so useful they would’ve been used/abused a long time ago.

  • Actually you may be right with regard to EPO…I’ve done a bit reading up on it and a lot is down to genetics and how much EPO you could take without getting flagged…before they had an EPO test they would use the Hematocrit level as a marker….50 was the limit…now if you were pretty evenly matched with another guy and you had a natural Hematocrit of, say, 40, and the other guy was at say 47, you could go up theoretically 10 points as opposed to his 3 points…..

  • I’m no scientist, but that’s what I know. I know that we react differently, I don’t know why though. Maybe you are right, I’ll look it up some other day.

  • We’ll are react differently to a degree but not a massive amount….I’d bet my life they were taking the same stuff…EPO is EPO, it’s a naturally occurring in the body, how can someone react differently to it in a massive way than someone else? Same with AAS…everyone has the same receptors, we’re all individual but are basically all the same……..I don’t believe drugs played such a massive role in LA’s success against all of his rivals who were doping….he trained and prepared better.

  • True Lance had more attention to detail. Training in the wind tunnel, shaving of those last bit of grams, reckoning the cours, etc..

  • well said.

  • I think my point was that Lance was the better three week tour cyclist…whatever chemical help there was…as to the different reactions to drugs…well, of course they would have taken that into account…that’s what people like Dr Ferrari were piad lots of money for…to get the best out of the EPO etc….

  • Not necessarily, You & I can both take the same PEDs, but the way our bodies react to the PEDs could be completely different; It could make me 10X better but it could make you 15X better than you currently are, our bodies react differently to different things. & we don’t know if lance & Ulle even took the same stuff, so who knows, but if they did, then perhaps Lance had better reaction to it, or maybe he was just a better cyclist (high cadence, etc.). It’s a variable.

  • cool tt bike used by armstrong

  • but Ulrich should have been feeling “extraordinary good” too…same products etc…fact is, like it or not, Armstring was the best rider through that period, dope or no dope…if he and all the others had rode clean he would still have won 7 times in a row.

  • 21:35 Lol! Unexplainably good… there might be an explanation or two.
